Podgorica, (MINA) – Former CIA operative Joseph Assad has been arrested in the United Arab Emirates on suspicion of being part of the logistical network in the attempted coup in Montenegro on day of parliamentary elections in October 2016.
The wanted notice against Assad has been issued following the orders of the Montenegrin Special State Prosecutor’s Office.
According press reports, Montenegrin authorities are preparing documentation to request Assad’s extradition.
Assad is accused by the prosecution authorities of having requesting assistance from a U.S.-based private security agency for counterintelligence surveillance and the extraction of manpower during the elections in Montenegro.
