Around 51,000 applications for property legalization submitted

Podgorica, (MINA) – A significant percentage of owners of illegally constructed buildings have entered the procedure of legalizing their properties, the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism (MORT) have stated, adding that around 51,000 applications have been received and that according to the data available there are around 60,000 illegal electricity connection points.

MORT are pleased with the implementation of the provisions of the Spatial Planning of Property Construction Law that address the legalization procedure.

“Around 51,000 applications for legalization have been submitted and according to the data available Montenegro has around 60,000 illegal electricity connection points, which indicates that a significant percentage of owners of illegal properties have started the legalization procedure,” MORT told Mina.

According to this government department, the processing of the application represents a challenge for local administrations, since the procedure is new.

“Based on the data collected from local governments, around 29,000 applications for legalization have been processed so far,” MORT reveal.

MORT explain that the owners of illegal properties who have failed to apply for legalization or those whose properties cannot be legalized, will be required by the Law to pay fees for the use of their properties to local governments, as well as higher taxes.
