Wind farm generates around 113 GWh

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – The Krnovo wind farm generated 113 GWh in the first three quarters, which accounts for four percent of the total output in that period, Minister of Economy Dragica Sekulic said, adding that the market value of electricity generated by this wind park exceeded €7 million.

Answering the MPs’ questions, she said at the Parliament that the value of the electricity import had decreased by that amount.

“Including all incentives, €13.2 million was paid to the power company, which is obliged to cover the costs of the land lease, the use of transmission system and the maintenance of the power plant,” Sekulic said, answering the question of Dragutin Papovic of the Democratic Party of Socialists concerning the benefits the state and the Municipality of Niksic have from the electricity generation at Krnovo.

Sekulic said that it the positive effects were manifold and interconnected.

“The development alone includes 26 wind generators at Krnovo with the total installed power of 72 MW, which is an investment worth around €150 million,” said Sekulic.

According to her, this is the first major power generation project since the construction of the Thermal Power Plant Pljevlja in 1982.

“With the planned annual output of 200 GWh, the Krnovo wind park will contribute to the energy mix in Montenegro, reducing the dependence of the system on the weather conditions and improving the foreign trade balance by around 10 million,” said Sekulic.

She said that the implementation of projects like that resulted in benefits at both state and local level, giving the example of local roads, expropriation, and development of additional power infrastructure.
