Sustainable economic growth is a strategy goal

Budva, (MINA-BUSINESS) – State Secretary at the Ministry of Transport Angelina Zivkovic has said that a sustainable and inclusive economic growth, which contributes to bridging the development gap with the EU average and improving the quality of life for all citizens, is Montenegro’s strategic goal.

At the opening of a two-day workshop on sustainable urban transport and mobility: policies and practice based on an overview of environmental impact by the United Nations European Commission for Europe (UNECE), she talked about the importance of a balanced approach and investments in the maintenance and development of the transport infrastructure and services.

According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Transport and Maritime Affairs, Zivkovic said that the strategic goals defined by the Transport Development Strategy for a period until 2035 would contribute to the development of sustainable transport.

She said that the positive effects of the Strategy, which had received a positive evaluation by the European Commission and whose adoption was expected by the end of the month, were expected as a result of implementation of strategic and specific goals and relevant measures.

The strategic goals are related to the economic wellbeing, accessibility, operations, quality of services, safety and security, EU integration, and environmental sustainability.

The Ministry says that the main goal of the two-day workshop is to offer a platform for the countries of the Eastern and Southeast Europe and Caucasus to share their experiences related to the sustainable transport issues and support the cooperation among relevant transport and environmental protection experts.

The workshops is attended by representatives of Albania, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Belarus, Georgia, Italy, Romania, North Macedonia, Serbia, Ukraine and different institutions, including the UNECE, the EBRD, the University of Milano-Bicocca, the ISPRA, and the German Environment Agency.
