Parliament should organize professional discussion

Podgorica, (MINA) – The Montenegrin parliament should organize a public discussion for professionals and religious communities on the Bill on Freedom of Religion, also in all parts of Montenegro where members of different religious communities live, the Civic Alliance (GA) stated.

Program director of this NGO Milan Radovic said that the government stated that the discussion took place from 3 August to 30 September 2015 in Bijelo Polje, Kotor and Podgorica, as well as that the representatives of the religious communities, NGOs and other interested parties participated.

According to him, the discussions did not take place, nor yield any conclusion, due to tensions.

“That is not true, since the discussions should have been held in regard to the text of the bill which was withdrawn in the meantime and was poorly evaluated by the Venice Commission”, Radovic told Mina.

“A serious country should not allow itself something like this to happen on such an important topic. Montenegrin parliament should organize a public discussion for professionals, religious communities on the Bill on Freedom of Religion, also in all parts of Montenegro where members of different religious communities live”, Radovic argues.

He remarked that it is necessary to analyze suggestions, have an open dialogue and involve all the interested parties, so that this issue would not cause even deeper divides in the society and bring to politically instability in the society.

“There is no need for hurry, since announcements about adopting this law have been current for a decade, especially since we are in a very sensitive political moment”, Radovic concluded.Longer version of article is available on a link MINA ENGLISH SERVIS
