Podgorica, (MINA) – Montenegro expect the EU to acknowledge its progress in this year’s report and commit to the integration of the Western Balkans’ countries and their reform processes after the elections for the European Parliament, the representatives of the Negotiation Group stated in the meeting with the ambassadors of the EU member states.
The government’s PR Bureau stated that Chief Negotiator Aleksandar Drljevic and the members of the Negotiation Group discussed during a working breakfast with the ambassadors of the EU member states, organized on Friday in cooperation with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, Montenegro’s results in the accession negotiations, as well as the forthcoming activities.
Drljevic stressed out that Montenegro remains committed to the reforms, with a belief that the EU will also stay committed to the goals set by the Sofia Summit Enlargement Strategy.
He added that, regardless the situation within the EU, Montenegro will continue meeting its requirements in the negotiation chapters and that meeting majority of closing benchmarks will indicate their time consuming high quality implementation.
The negotiators presented to the EU ambassadors the overview of all negotiation chapters, and in particular the results in the field of rule of law that recommend Montenegro for the next phase of the negotiations.
Chief Special Prosecutor Milivoje Katnic also attended the meeting, and presented to the representatives of the EU member countries the SDT’s activities in fight against organized crime and corruption, with the focus on the cases of special interest to the public.
The representatives of the EU member states stressed out that Montenegro had made great progress on its EU path since the beginning of the negotiations.
