Podgorica, (MINA) – In the time of continuous changes, NATO is necessary as a pillar of defense of values of the countries united around the ideas of freedom and democracy, said Minister of Foreign Affairs Srdjan Darmanovic during the ministerial forum in Washington.
During the visit to the USA on the occasion of celebrating 70 years of NATO, he participated in the ministerial forum that was organized by the Center for European Politicy Analysis (CEPA).
The Head of Montenegrin diplomacy pointed to the importance of addressing contemporary interior and foreign challenges the Alliance faces and stressed that the current dynamics of relations in the international community confirms that the allies face new threats to security and internal cohesion.
“In line with that, he stressed that it is necessary to additionally strengthen defense capacities, with the goal of adapting to contemporary security environment”, the Ministry’s press release stated.
He added that geopolitical ambitions of certain actors underline the need for increased interest of the Alliance for the South and East Europe.

Darmanovic said that NATO is not only a military but also an alliance of values, which is an irreplaceable mechanism in providing security in the Western Balkans.
