MUP: Marovic was not granted Serbian citizenship

Belgrade, (MINA) – Ministry of the Interior of Serbia (MUP) denied the allegations that former president of the state union Serbia and Montenegro Svetozar Marovic was granted Serbian citizenship.

“We inform the public that Marovic is not the citizen of Serbia, not has filed a request for being granted Serbian citizenship”, it is stated in MUP’s statement, Tanjug reports.

Belgrade based lawyer Bozo Prelevic said earlier on Saturday that Marovic is the citizen of Serbia and thus, in line with the laws of that country, cannot be extradited to Montenegro.

Montenegrin Justice Ministry has recently sent to Serbia an official request for Marovic’s extradition.
