Podgorica, (MINA) – At the session staring on Thursday, the Montenegrin Parliament will consider the Proposal for the National Security Strategy, which is said to have been fully aligned with the NATO Strategy.
The document was backed by the Parliament’s Security and Defense Committee at a meeting in October.
Minister of Defense Predrag Boskovic said that the main reason for changing Montenegro’s key strategic document in the defense sector is Montenegro’s accession to NATO on 5 June last year, which significantly changed the national security framework, from an individual into a collective defense system.
“The goal of the Strategy is to establish and systemic framework for the realization of Montenegro’s security interests and to identify the key guidelines for national security policies,” Boskovic stated.
The Strategy, he remarked, provides the key directions of the national security policy and defines national security interests and objectives.
“The Strategy considers the security environment, challenges, risks and threats, as well as the country’s response in those situations,” Boskovic stated at the meeting of the Defense and Security Committee.
