Montenegro set to work harder to meet EU agenda, PM argues

Podgorica, (MINA) – Montenegro will work even harder next year to meet its EU agenda, Prime Minister Dusko Markovic stated in Brussels at a meeting with EU Commissioner for Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiation Johannes Hahn.

Markovic said that Montenegro’s ambition is to soon open Chapter 8 in the EU accession talks dedicated to the area of competition.

According to a government press release, the Prime Minister stressed that Montenegro has been working hard to ensure internal preparedness for the closing of several chapters.

Markovic and Hahn agreed that progress has been made in the area of the rule of law.

The PM is said to have made special reference to the fight against corruption and organized crime, where he noted an upward trend in performance.

Reportedly, the meeting also discussed progress in the field of the media, while placing an emphasis on the issues of protecting the safety of journalists and media property.
