Montenegro ranks 71st

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – Montenegro has improved its ranking by six places on this year’s competitiveness list of 140 countries, published by the World Economic Forum, and is now ranked 71st.

The Ministry of Finance says in a press release that, according to the WEF Global Competitiveness Report 2018, Montenegro’s ranking is higher by two places compared with its position in the last year’s index.

The press release says that the index includes 12 pillars of competitiveness that are of particular importance for the competitiveness of a country.

“The notable results have been achieved in the field of labour market efficiency, with the ranking improving by 49 places, from the 74th to 25th,” the press release says.

Across the region, Slovenia, Serbia and Croatia are better ranked than Montenegro, which is above Albania and Macedonia and Bosnia and Herzegovina on the list.

The top ten countries in the world are the United States, Singapore, Germany, Switzerland, Japan, the Netherlands, Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, Sweden and Denmark.

“Along with the Ease of Doing Business Report by the World Ban, the Fraser Institute’s report, and the credit rating announcements, this is another confirmation of the quality of the Government’s reforms aimed at maintaining the stability of public finance, strengthening the competitiveness and implementing the measures envisaged by the fiscal strategy,” the Ministry says.
