Klica: We have clear vision of managing Salina

Podgorica, (MINA) – Montenegro has capable staff, good infrastructure and a clear business vision on how to manage the Ulcinj Salina, officials at the National Parks of Montenegro (NPCG) argue.

The EU common position recently published by the Office for European Integration says that without adequate protection of the Ulcinj Salina, Montenegro cannot expect to provisionally close Chapter 27 – Environment and Climate Change.

NPCG Director Elvir Klica told Mina that relevant institutions are facing complex tasks when it comes to EU accession and the closing of Chapter 27, arguing however that those tasks are not insurmountable.

“We believe that Montenegro has highly skilled staff for the implementation of the necessary activities when it comes to protecting the Salina, and that the establishment of a sustainable financial mechanism, infrastructure and long-term strategy is a challenge that requires international support,” Klica stated.

According to him, the NPCG has good cooperation with both domestic ornithologists and international experts.

Klica argues that the fact that Chapter 27 has been opened denies the allegations about the lack of clear vision, professional and scientific capabilities for long-term and sustainable management of the Ulcinj Salina.

He explains that the purpose of taking a lease of the Salina property is to continue to protect and advance the established ecosystem in the area, to provide physical and technical protection and prevent any illegal activities. Longer version of article is available on a link MINA ENGLISH SERVIS
