Economic benefits of NATO membership already visible

Podgorica, (MINA) – Montenegro has become a member of NATO, despite numerous challenges, Parliament Speaker Ivan Brajovic has stated, adding that the economic benefits of NATO membership are already visible.

At part of his visit to Washington D.C, where he will attend the Prayer Breakfast, Brajovic was one of the keynote speakers at a round table discussion held at the U.S. Senate about the current challenges in South East Europe and countering Russia’s detrimental impact in the region.

Brajovic is taking part in the event at the invitation of Senator James Inhofe, Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee.

The Parliament stated that the participants in the panel also included Senator Mike Rounds, Congressmen Michael Turner, Rober Anderhot and Robert Pittenger, President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly George Tsereteli and officials of the countries of South East Europe.

Brajovic remarked that Montenegro remains committed to regional cooperation and is especially proud of its good neighborhood policy.

“We don’t have any open issues that could pose a significant burden to our relations with neighbors. Despite numerous challenges we have become a member of NATO,” the Parliament Speaker said.

According to Brajovic, NATO membership was critical for solidifying national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

“Having in mind our past progress, we rightly expect to be the next country to join the EU. It is our interest for all the countries of South East Europe to become part of NATO and EU,” Brajovic stated.
