DPS violates Law on Financing of Political Parties

Podgorica, (MINA) – The Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) has violated the Law on Financing of Political Parties and Election Campaigns while collecting and spending the funds for the 2016 election campaign, the Anti-Corruption Agency (ASK) has stated.

The ASK argues that it has been established that the private funding in the amount of €47,500, which refered to the election activites in the town of Golubovci was not collected by the DPS in accorance with the Law on Financing of Political Parties and Election Campaigns.

The Agency has found that the funds were not reported to the authorized official in the party, who was authorized for the approval of expenditures in line with the Law.

The ASK also claims that the funds were not transfered through the DPS account designated for the election campaign.

“Acting ex officio, as well as based on media reports alleging a violation of the Law on Financing of Political Parties and Election Campaigns by the DPS political party during the 2016 parliamentary elections, having conducted a control and inspection of the documentation and having taken relevant statements, the ASK has found that, while collecting the election campaign funds, this political party violated Article 6, paragraph 12 and Article 18, paragraph 2 of the Law on Financing of Political Parties and Election Campaigns,” the Agency said in a press statement.

The ASK explains that, as a result of the discovered wrongdoings, they are set to impose on the DPS the maximum fine of €20,000, plus to request that the €47,500 be returned to the state budget.
