Djukanovic did not violate Anti-Corruption Law, ASK says

Podgorica, (MINA) – The Anti-Corruption Agency (ASK) has delivered an order dismissing as unfounded the requests by MANS and Civic Movement URA to establish a violation of the Anti-Corruption Law by President Milo Djukanovic.

The requests urged the ASK to establish violations of the provisions of the Anti-Corruption Law referring to reports on income and property and unlawful acceptance and non-reporting of gifts, arguing that Djukanovic has failed to report a gift from Atlas Bank worth at least €16,741.

URA and MANS claim that Djukanovic as a public official used to have Atlas Bank’s VIP revolving card which he used for his personal expenses and that there is a suspicion that this was a gift that he was legally required to refuse.

“The Agency has dismissed the requests in question as unfounded, meaning that in this particular case there are no elements for the launch of proceedings, because the possession of a debit card does not constitute a gift in the sense of Article 6 of the Anti-Corruption Law, i.e. it is not related to the performance of public office,” the ASK said in a press statement.

The Agency claims that Djukanovic, as a public official, did not act in breach of Articles 17 and 19 of the Anti-Corruption Law by possessing the card in question, i.e. he did not violate the provisions of the law that refer to the acceptance of gifts during the performance of public office.
