Decision on economic citizenship criteria adopted

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – The Government’s has adopted a decision on the criteria, and manner of selection of persons eligible for economic citizenship on the basis of the investment programmes of particular economic interest, which will come into effect next year.

Minister of Sustainable Development and Tourism Pavle Radulovic said that the Economic Citizenship Programme was based on the principle of the Government’s full responsibility for its implementation.

“The programme has been limited to a period of three years, and it can be seen as a pilot project, which is one of the measures to protect ourselves from potential mistakes,” Radulovic said after a Cabinet meeting.

He said that the number of applications in this period would be limited to 2,000, adding that the money collected directly from that source would be used for development purposes only.

Radulovic said that special agents would be appointed to act as mediators in the application procedure and to evaluate international acceptability of the applicants.

“The mediation agents need to have implemented a similar project in three different countries, at least one of which is a European Union Member State,” said Radulovic, adding that the role of the agents was to simplify the administration.
