Dakic: No alternative to building training range on Sinjajevina

Podgorica, (MINA) – In order to train the armed forces, Montenegro must have a training range, and the location in Sinjajevina has no alternative, said Chief of the General Staff of the Montenegrin Armed Forces Dragutin Dakic.

“This location is recognized as the only adequate in Montenegro, among other things because it is completely owned by the state. The state must have a trained army, and that army must have a training range in order to be trained”, Dakic said in an interview to Mina.

He remarked that such a location, which corresponds to the needs and standards of VCG, and is completely owned by the state, has been found at the east side of mountain Sinjajevina, in the location administratively shared by the municipalities of Mojkovac, Kolasin and Savnik.

“This location was for the same purposes used by the Yugoslav People’s Army”, said Dakic.

He explained that the Defense Ministry hired experts who drafted the documentation necessary for declaring this area a military training range, adding that they took care of environmental protection.

“First of all, those are very small quantities of explosives. Annual needs of VCG are the tenth part of the daily amounts of explosive destroyed at the highway building site”, Dakic explained.

VCG, according to him, does not intend to build permanent facilities in that site, but will use military barracks Breza in Kolasin for logistic purposes.

“The citizens of Montenegro could only have benefits from the Army. We intend to build access roads that would facilitate access to the mountain settlements”, said Dakic.

According to him, objections to building of the range are mostly politically motivated. Longer version of article is available on a link MINA ENGLISH SERVIS
