Boycott cannot slow down integration process but can prolong it

Podgorica, (MINA) – Boycott of the parliament cannot slow down the process of EU integration, but can prolong it, since there is no completion of that process without parliament in its full capacity, said professor Gordana Djurovic.

According to her, integration agenda is clear and calls for full participation of all branches of power.

“Executive power have the biggest responsibility, but without the parliament that process cannot be accelerated nor can keep on with the appropriate dynamics. The parliament is the right place for dialogue between all political parties and I believe that all our opposition representatives belong to the parliament”, Djurovic said in an interview to Mina.

According to her, the boycott will not slow down the integration process, but it should not be ignored.

“In other words, it will not slow it down, but can prolong it, since there is no accelerated accession dynamics without parliament in its full capacity”, said Djurovic.

According to her, the opposition should fully participate in the work of the parliament and fight in the institutions of the system for its political goals.

Asked if the elections for the European parliament can affect the enlargement policy, Djurovic answered that it is indicative that the European Commission’s report, which is always impatiently expected, has been postponed from April to late May, after the EP elections.

“Therefore, EP elections certainly affect EU’s agenda, postpone enlargement issue, at least for a short time, and focus the attention of the member state to the interior priorities”, Djurovic explained.

She remarked that it is yet to be seen what new EP and Commission’s term will bring, and that it is to be expected that the attention would be shifted to our region, with the EU as facilitator of political dialogue in the countries of the region.

Asked if she agreed with president Milo Djukanovic’s statement that Russia is trying to prevent WB countries from joining NATO and that Russian policy towards the EU and unification of Europe is destructive, Djurovic said that she agreed that if the EU overlooks the WB others will increase their influence in the region, and that it is a clear message of the EU officials.

She does not believe that Brexit will bring to growth of Euro-skepticism in Montenegro, and added that Brexit and other EU crises did not decrease the enthusiasm for accepting new member states.
