Application of harmonized regulations is the most demanding negotiation phase

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – It was concluded at a meeting of the Subcommittee on Transport, Energy, Environment and Regional Development of Montenegro and the European Commission that implementation of acquis was the most demanding phase of negotiations, given the complexity of this chapter in terms of administrative and financial requirements.

Montenegro and the European Commission agreed at the meeting that Montenegro had considerably changed its legislative and institutional framework since the beginning of the negotiations in the field of transport, environment, energy and regional development, harmonizing it with the European legislation.

Deputy Chief Negotiator Marko Mrdak said that Montenegro had achieved considerable results in all chapters covered by the Subcommittee, which was evident from this year’s Progress Report.

“Montenegro is committed to meeting the obligations in the field of transport policy and trans-European network, whose implementation is of practical and economic importance for its citizens, as it requires preconditions for high-quality infrastructure,” said Mrdak.

Deputy Head of the Montenegro Unit at the Directorate General for Enlargement Barbara Jesus-Gimeno said that Montenegro had done a lot of work in the fields dealt with by the Subcommittee.

“This Subcommittee is important for the European path of Montenegro and, first and foremost, for the Montenegrin citizens,” said Jesus-Gimeno.

Talking about Chapter 27 – Environment and Climate Changes, she said that the focus should be placed on meeting the obligations related to the air quality, climate changes and environmental protection leading to the fulfilment of the criteria allowing Montenegro to close this chapter.
