Access to finance still a problem for startups

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – Cofounder of the nongovernmental organization Digitalizuj.me Predrag Lesic believes that Montenegrin startup community is still in the initial phase of development, and sees the access to finance as its main problem.

“The startup community in Montenegro is currently on its second wave. We had the first wave with the startup Tour via me, which was followed by several more, the most successful being Bee and Me,” Lesic told Mina-business agency.

Lesic, who is executive director of the company DoMEn, said that there had been a pause after the first wave, followed by the second one with Uhura Solitions and Marleq.

“We are still in the initial phase of development. I hope that, thanks to the efforts of the Ministry of Science, we will see a faster pace of development in the years to come,” said Lesic.

He said that the startup companies were designed to grow at a rapid pace.

“A newly established company is not necessarily a startup, while a startup does not have to be based on technology or financed by venture capital,” said Lesic, adding that it is only important for a startup to be designed to grow fast.
