Europe responds to nationalism and populism blow

Podgorica, (MINA) – The results of the elections for the European Parliament (EP) confirmed that Europe responded to the blow of nationalism and populism, and supports progressive parties, said president of European Movement Momcilo Radulovic.

He claims that the EP elections’ results did not cause any huge movements in the EU political scene.
“Thus we’ve seen that Europe responded to the blow of nationalism and populism, and gave adequate democratic response, supporting progressive parties”, Radulovic told Mina.

He claims that it is to be expected that the enlargement process will not suffer additional blows and slowing down either, but that, following so-called technical period, during which new EP structures will be formed, the enlargement process will pick up early next year, and the EU institutions will pay more attention to it.

“Generally, there is not too many reasons for excessive optimism, nor for pessimism, but the process will follow its path”, said Radulovic.

Commenting on the EC Report on Montenegro, he said that, if compared to the previous one, it is obvious that not many changes happened in the critical areas, which the citizens recognize as such also.

Those are, Radulovic reiterated, the areas of the rule of law, fight against corruption, reform of judiciary, issues regarding functioning of the institutions such as the Anti-Corruption Agency, prosecution and judiciary.

“It is good to see the set of positive assessments in the field of economy, and I believe that the character of the report is more positive in terms of seeing a small progress in the EC’s approach to Montenegro. It is more a partner relation in which certain changes are suggested, than the directives which would be critically focused towards essential system changes’, Radulovic said.
