Montenegro committed to finding optimum response to climate change

Podgorica, (MINA) – Montenegro is committed to the international community’s efforts in searching for an optimum response to climate change, as one of the most complex challenges of today’s world, President Milo Djukanovic has stated.

Djukanovic is taking part in the Leaders’ Summit of the 24th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, which is taking place in Katowice, Poland.

According to a press announcement from the President’s Office, the conference is one of the most important events that brings together state officials, representatives of scientific institutions and CSOs, three years after the adoption of the historic climate agreement in Paris.

President Djukanovic is said to have underlined Montenegro’s commitment to the Paris Agreement and the need to strengthen the newly established Talanoa Dialogue.

He recalled that, regardless of its small share in global emissions of only 0.009%, Montenegro has set a very ambitious goal of reducing greenhouse gas emission by 30% compared to the baseline level of 1990.

He expects that, by 2030, the ongoing and future investment in energy infrastructure will help Montenegro to reach a 33% share of renewable energy sources.
