New legal solutions in Montenegro’s interest

Podgorica, (MINA) – The Defense and Security Committee passed on Friday the amendments to the Law on Defense, which envisage president of the country to reach a decision on the use of military aircrafts of NATO allies which protect the Montenegrin air space.

The amendments are supported by the votes of the ruling coalition MPs, while the representatives of the Democratic Front were against.

Defense Minister Predrag Boskovic said that the proposed solutions are high quality and in Montenegro’s interest.

He said that Montenegro accepted the collective security concept, but that the North-Atlantic Treaty does not mean losing of a part of its sovereignty.

Boskovic said that a military intelligence service has been formed and that it will not exceed its authority.

He remarked that the membership in an organization means aligning with its legislation.

“As we are doing with the EU, aligning our legislation with their, we are aligning doctrinaire, strategic and legal documents with NATO”, said he.

Boskovic added that he did not see how this law or NATO itself could cause losing any part of the country’s sovereignty.

Asked by DF MP Nebojsa Medojevic if the Ministry of Defense procured and if it did, for which purposes, the wiretapping equipment, Boskovic said that it did not.

Asked by Medojevic about the special equipment that will be used for gathering data for military intelligence directorate, Boskovic responded that the National Security Agency will gather data for this directorate.

Medojevic added that introduction of a new military intelligence service could be a constitutional issue.
