Podgorica, (MINA) – Minister of Justice Zoran Pazin has said that he expects all political parties to allow for the best and most competent candidates to be elected to the Judicial Council, so that they can perform the most responsible duties in the Montenegrin judiciary without being indebted to politicians.
The MPs are about to vote on the four nominations for the Judicial Council from the ranks of prominent jurists, after the nominees failed to receive the required two-thirds majority support in the Parliament in July.
In order to be elected in the second vote, they need the support of three-fifths of MPs, or 49 votes in favor.
Pazin told Pobjeda that selecting of the best and most competent candidates is an investment in an independent and efficient judiciary, as the cornerstone of overall development and prosperity of Montenegro.
“The selection of members of the Judicial Council exclusively based on the criteria of the personal and professional integrity of candidates is a necessary precondition for the independence and functionality of courts and a guarantee for legal certainty and equality of Montenegrin citizens before the law,” the Justice Minister explained.
