Podgorica, (MINA) – International recognition of Montenegro’s national independence is a key outcome of the Congress of Berlin, it was heard at a ceremony hosted at the University of Montenegro (UCG) on Monday.
The ceremony, which featured an exhibition of the Historical Institute and the symbolic planting of 140 trees at the UCG Campus, marked the 140th anniversary of Montenegro’s recognition as independent state at the Congress of Berlin.
Chief Negotiator Aleksandar Drljevic stated that the Congress of Berlin was a turning point in Montenegro’s history, which left a strong mark and shaped its politics, economy, culture and overall social reality.
According to Drljevic, 140 years later, Montenegro is a member of NATO and on the good path of becoming the next member of the EU.
He remarked that, owing to comprehensive internal reforms and consistent foreign policy, Montenegro has deserved respect of the international community and strengthened its partnership with the world’s most developed countries.
