Podgorica, (MINA) – The Western Balkans can make efficient transition towards knowledge and innovation based economy, although it needs to address many challenges in that journey, Minister of Science Sanja Damjanovic stated.
The first international workshop in the Western Balkans dedicated to the process of smart specialization (S3), co-hosted by the Ministry of Science of Montenegro and the Joint Research Center of the European Commission (JRC), was held in Podgorica on Tuesday.
Damjanovic remarked that Montenegro recognized the importance of smart specialization for future development based on knowledge, technology and innovation.
“We entered this new and challenging process in early 2017, in cooperation with several ministries, but under the constant guidance and support of the JRC. We joined the JRC S3 platform in August 2017”, she explained.
According to Damjanovic, this period was special for Montenegro, as it was marked by close cooperation between private, academic, civil and public sectors.
