Regional stability must not be called into question, Boskovic argues

Brussels, (MINA) – The key to security and stability of the Western Balkans lies in the region’s full integration into NATO and the outcome of the referendum in Macedonia must not call this into question, Montenegrin Defense Minister Predrag Boskovic has stated.

Asked by the press in Brussels ahead of the NATO ministerial meeting to comment on the outcome of the Macedonian referendum and how it could affect the stability of the region, he replied that nobody who advocated the integration of the entire Western Balkans into NATO was pleased to see that Macedonian citizens had failed to take the matter in their own hands.

“It is now up to politicians in Macedonia to try to do it through the Parliament,” Boskovic said, adding that Montenegro fully supports the Euro-Atlantic ambitions of not only Macedonia.

According to him, security and stability of the whole Western Balkans lies in its full integration into NATO.

“We respect everyone’s decisions, but I’m still hopeful that Macedonia will be the next member of NATO,” Boskovic added.
