Request for Marovic’s extradition possible only after his arrest

Podgorica, (MINA) – The Montenegrin Ministry of Justice may request the extradition of Svetozar Marovic, only after the Serbian police arrest him, acting on the Interpol wanted notice issued against him, the Supreme Court told Mina.

On Wednesday, Supreme Court President Vesna Medenica told the press that the courts did everything in their power in the case of Svetozar Marovic and that now the Ministry of Justice needs to take action within its purview.

“With a view to informing the public in an accurate, objective and timely manner, we underline that the purpose of the statement made by the Supreme Court President was to emphasize the fact that the courts and other state authorities in Montenegro have done everything within their competence in the Marovic case,” the Supreme Court stated.

The Court recalled that an international Interpol wanted notice has been issued against Marovic.

“Now, the Serbian police should act in accordance with Interpol’s rules, arrest Marovic and enable his extradition to Montenegro,” the Court explained.

Only after that, the statement said, will the Montenegrin Ministry of Justice be able to request Marovic’s extradition to Montenegro.
