Podgorica, (MINA) – The comments by the OSCE expert about the Draft Amendments to the Law on National Public Broadcaster RTCG do not contribute to the strengthening of the public broadcaster’s independence, the NGO Media Center has noted.
“Introducing a procedure that involves the election of the RTCG Director General by a qualified majority in the Montenegrin Parliament, would mean going 18 years back in normative terms,” Media Center’s Director Goran Djurovic has said.
If political parties should be allowed to elect the RTCG Director General in the Parliament, Djurovic argues, that would trigger political trade-offs across at the public broadcaster.
“Deals would be made about the director of the Radio, director of the Television, and then about editors of individual program sections,” he noted.
Djurovic argues that the public broadcaster can be professional only if political parties, both government and opposition, are prevented from influencing its program, which would not be possible with the model proposed by the OSCE expert.
