Podgorica, (MINA) – The Western Balkans does not have a closer partner than the European Union (EU), EU Ambassador to Montenegro Johann Sattler said ahead of the Tivat Summit, adding that the EU path brings concrete benefits to citizens as well as European living standard.
In his video message to citizens, Sattler stated that in the next two days Montenegro will host the EU-Western Balkans Summit for the first time, which will bring together more than 30 heads of state and government of the European Union and the region.
Sattler assessed that the Summit is a confirmation of the results that Montenegro has achieved on the European path.
“For Montenegro, as the most advanced membership candidate, this summit represents a recognition for the exceptional results, especially in the last two years, but also an invitation to sharpen its European focus and ensure the needed political unity in order to take the final step towards the European future”, said Sattler.
He recalled that the Summit comes after the country recently marked the 20th anniversary of the restoration of its independence.
According to Sattler, President of the European Council Antonio Costa and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen will discuss with EU and regional leaders common prosperity, security and stability.
“The Summit message is that the Western Balkans does not have a closer partner than the EU. Through trade, investments and cooperation, the path to the EU brings concrete benefits to citizens and European living standard”, said Sattler.
He thanked the citizens for their support, as well as perseverance and patience on Montenegro’s European path.
