Podgorica, (MINA) – Foreign political factors and organized criminal groups work together against Montenegro’s European path, Prime Minister Milojko Spajic said, adding that the EU wants to provide maximum support to the country in the fight against such influences.
Spajic said this in the Parliament, responding to the question of Democrats MP Boris Bogdanovic who asked if the Government recognized that part of the political activity in the previous period was based on divisions, discrediting citizens based on their political affiliation, targeting religious sentiments and smear campaigns directed at political opponents and their families.
“I want to ask this question because of a dangerous behavioral model our colleagues have been developing for 30 years, that when they do not dare to sign a statement, they release it through fake portals, through their intermediaries, through their mafia-linked media servants”, said Bogdanovic.
Spajic said that this is a very important topic that the EU is currently dealing with.
“For the first time in Montenegro, we have a mix of foreign political factors and organized criminal groups, which jointly act as geopolitical competitors of the EU and against the European path of Montenegro”, said Spajic.
He pointed out that this has been happening for the first time, since four or five months ago.
“We are keeping an open eye, we see some events outside Montenegro that are directly connected to organized criminal groups operating in the country. We will follow and diligently inform the public about everything, as does the EU, which wants to provide maximum support in the fight against such influences”, Spajic said.
Speaking about the constitutional amendments, he said that in this way the institutions, the prosecution, the judiciary and the Central Bank will be much more independent than they are now.
“We missed the train when the opposition failed to provide a response last week. We missed the train and lost EUR 4.6 million. Now we must not miss closing chapters 23 and 24 this year because of that”, Spajic said.
He called on the entire opposition to vote for these amendments and to “get back on the right track”.
