Podgorica, (MINA) – German Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s statement that Montenegro is practically ready to join the EU is a confirmation of the country’s reform progress and stronger support of the EU to enlargement policy, said Parliament Secretary General Boban Stanisic.  

He said that Merz’s statement is a strong political message and that such statements are not made lightly.

According to Stanisic, to be recognized by one of Europe’s most important leaders as being prepared for EU accession and becoming part of the European family is a historic moment for Montenegro. 

“Such messages prove that our country is increasingly being perceived as the next EU member state, as a country which has reched the final stage of European path readily, responsibly and with clear support of the most important European partners”, said Stanisic.

He stressed that such statements are not made by accident, but are the result of dedicated reform efforts, institutional responsibility and a clear pro-European orientation.
