Podgorica, (MINA) – Montenegro’s EU membership will demonstrate the success of the enlargement policy, Minister of Foreign Affairs Ervin Ibrahimovic said.
He met on Friday with his Greek counterpart Giorgos Gerapetritis during his official visit to Montenegro, which, as announced by the Montenegrin Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), reaffirmed the high level of bilateral relations and partnership between the two countries.
Ibrahimovic thanked Greece for its continued and strong support for Montenegro’s European path, emphasizing clear goals – closing all negotiating chapters by the end of the year and full EU membership by 2028.
“I believe that Montenegro’s example can demonstrate that the enlargement policy is again not only important, but also strong and credible, as one of the key policies of the EU”, said Ibrahimovic.
It is stated that Gerapetritis praised Montenegro’s achievements and commitment to the European agenda.
He said that Greece welcomes the progress and efforts made by Montenegro on its EU path, as well as the reforms being implemented.
“Greece’s support for Montenegro’s European perspective is unwavering. We expect that the negotiations will soon result in membership, and we look forward to welcoming Montenegro during our presidency next year”, said Gerapetritis.
