Milatovic announces initiative to open a Montenegrin diplomatic mission in Astana

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – Montenegrin President Jakov Milatovic has announced that he will initiate the opening of a diplomatic mission in Astana, stating that Montenegro must consider a stronger presence in Central Asia.

According to a press release from his Office, Milatovic said that the first official visit by a President of Montenegro to Kazakhstan marks an important moment in relations between the two countries and provides an opportunity to translate political dialogue into concrete economic, tourism, and institutional cooperation.

“Today we opened a new chapter in relations between Kazakhstan and Montenegro. This is the first visit by a President of Montenegro to Kazakhstan, the largest economy in Central Asia, a country that has achieved a great deal in recent years and from which we can learn much, particularly in the context of economic development,” Milatovic said.

He noted that he had an excellent and friendly meeting with Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, whose invitation brought him to the country on an official visit.

Milatovic recalled that the visit is taking place in the year marking the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Montenegro and Kazakhstan.

Speaking about the economic dimension of the visit, Milatovic noted that a large Montenegrin business delegation is also in Kazakhstan, demonstrating the intention to place special focus on strengthening economic relations between the two countries.
