Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has warned intellectual property rights holders and companies about fraudulent emails, spoofed phone calls using concealed or falsified numbers, and fake payment requests falsely claiming to originate from WIPO.
According to a notice published on the website of Montenegro’s Ministry of Economic Development, scammers frequently use fake email addresses, telephone numbers, logos, and document templates to make their communications appear legitimate.
WIPO emphasizes that its official communications always come from the wipo.int domain and that it never requests payments that are not officially prescribed.
It is important to recognize fraudulent emails by checking the sender's address, avoiding urgent payment requests, verifying links, ignoring suspicious attachments, and watching for poor grammar.
In the case of suspicious phone calls, people should never disclose personal or financial information, should not give in to pressure, and should verify the caller’s identity.
