Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – By closing Chapter 8 – Competition Policy and Chapter 29 – Customs Union, Montenegro has achieved another important milestone in its European Union (EU) accession process, confirming that the reform process is progressing according to plan and that European standards are becoming an integral part of the country’s institutional, legal and economic system.
This was stated by the Ministry of Finance following today’s Intergovernmental Conference in Brussels, at which Montenegro provisionally closed the two chapters.
The Ministry said in a press release that Montenegro has now provisionally closed a total of 18 out of 33 negotiating chapters, adding that this once again confirms that the European path is not based on promises, but on measurable results and successfully implemented reforms recognized and acknowledged by the EU.
“The Ministry of Finance, as one of the key institutions in the negotiating process and the body coordinating activities in the largest number of negotiating chapters, has successfully fulfilled all obligations within its remit, making a decisive contribution to the closure of two additional negotiating chapters,” the press release reads.
The Ministry noted that this once again confirmed its key role in implementing reforms that constitute the foundation of Montenegro’s European integration.
