Podgorica, (MINA) - The hunger strike in the Remand Prison of the Directorate for the Execution of Criminal Sanctions (UIKS) and the protests outside the Podgorica High Court have not produced any results, as the authorities have failed to respond, the Spuz detainees announced.
In a press release delivered to the media through lawyer Nikola Tomkovic, the detainees recalled that they were on strike due to overcrowding, poor hygienic conditions and long court proceedings.
This, as they said, resulted in a significant number of postponed trials, because as a sign of revolt some detainees revoked the powers of attorney of their defense attorneys.
The detainees pointed to, as they said, the humiliating attitude by the institutions, which turned a deaf ear to their appeals and requests.
“We believe that we have been denied all the basic rights to life, as well as the right to a fair and just trial guaranteed by the law”, the press release states.
The detainees called on all lawyers to publicly speak out about the ongoing situation in Montenegrin judiciary and about their actual role in the courtrooms.
