Podgorica, (MINA) – Montenegro ranked 55th among 177 countries included in this year’s Environmental Performance Index (EPI), which is a confirmation of the country’s responsible environmental policy, the Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Northern Development (MERS) announced.
This year’s EPI report ranks 177 countries based on 47 indicators of environmental protection, across 12 thematic areas, including public health protection, ecosystem vitality and climate change.
Minister of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Northern Development Damjan Culafic, commenting on the results of the EPI report, said that they represent an encouraging confirmation of the country’s continued progress in the field of environmental protection.
According to him, the fact that Montenegro has advanced by almost 20 places compared to 2024 is especially encouraging.
He pointed out that the report, in addition to the achieved progress, also clearly identifies the areas requiring additional improvement.
“We are aware that there are areas in which better results need to be achieved. These are precisely the areas that require significant financial investments and systemic reforms, and which are also included in the obligations under the negotiating Chapter 27 – Environment and Climate Change”, said Culafic.
