Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – Airports of Montenegro (ACG) announced that British Airways has launched the London Heathrow–Tivat route, with flights operating three times a week until 26 September.
ACG Executive Director Roko Tolic said that the arrival of British Airways is the culmination of efforts to elevate the country’s air connectivity to a higher level.
“The British Airways brand, along with a direct connection to one of the most important airports in Europe and the world, which London Heathrow certainly is, introduces a new segment to our offering,” Tolic said, adding that this is a great opportunity for citizens of Montenegro and strong support for our tourism industry.
British Airways Senior Network Planning Manager Sam Capron explained that planning a new air route can be a complex process involving many factors and variables.
According to him, the United Kingdom is an important source market for tourism.
“This route further contributes to that by enabling British travelers to more easily explore Montenegro’s natural beauty, rich heritage, and warm hospitality. With direct flights from London to Tivat, we are opening the door to the Adriatic coast, supporting tourism development, and bringing real value to the local economy and community here,” Capron added.
Acting Minister of Transport and Minister of Maritime Affairs Filip Radulovic said that Montenegro is proud of its cooperation with British Airways and that this is a great day for the entire country.
“We continue to expand our air network, and this is just one step in that direction. We are proud of the partnership with British Airways, and I would also like to congratulate ACG Executive Director Roko Tolic on this excellent result,” Radulovic said.
British Ambassador to Montenegro Dawn McKen said in a written statement that the launch of the new direct British Airways route between London Heathrow and Tivat is a very welcome addition to the growing number of air connections between the United Kingdom and Montenegro.
“Improved connectivity between the United Kingdom and Montenegro reflects the growing interest of British travellers in Montenegro as a modern, welcoming, and increasingly popular destination,” McKen stated.
Director of the National Tourism Organization Ana Tripkovic Markovic stated that the new route marks an exceptionally important step in improving Montenegro’s air connectivity with the UK market, which is one of the destination’s strategically most important outbound tourism markets.
“In addition, the arrival of British Airways is very important because it creates opportunities for better connectivity with distant markets through the broad network of connections via London as one of the world’s leading aviation hubs for transfer flights. We are particularly pleased that interest from British tourists continues to grow year after year,” Tripkovic Markovic said.
She added that, according to Monstat, more than 118,000 tourist arrivals from the United Kingdom were recorded last year, six percent more compared with the previous year.
