Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – The Government of Montenegro has received an official letter from the consortium led by the South Korean company Incheon International Airport Corporation, stating that the group is withdrawing from the concession procedure for the Airports of Montenegro.

“The process of considering the possible concession of the airports was launched with a clear objective – to secure investment, improve the quality of services and ensure the further development of air transport, while fully safeguarding Montenegro’s national interests,” the Government said in a press release.

If any interested investors determine at any stage that they are unable to meet the high standards required by this process, this does not alter the Government’s firm commitment that, in this or any future procedure, it will not accept solutions that fail to guarantee the full protection of Montenegro’s vital interests.

“Given that the Airports of Montenegro are achieving outstanding business results, our objective is not, and must not be, to conclude business arrangements at any cost, but only under conditions that ensure the greatest possible benefits for the state and create the foundation for the company’s long-term infrastructure development,” the Government said.

According to the press release, the Government remains open to dialogue and high-quality investment proposals from all credible partners capable of offering a cooperation model aligned with the national interests, while adhering to the principles of transparency, sustainability and the protection of the public interest. 

“We are confident that steadfast adherence to these principles is the best guarantee that any future model for managing the Airports of Montenegro will serve the interests of the state, its citizens and the economy,” the press release reads.
