Seismic imaging on schedule

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – According to the Hydrocarbons Administration, Polar Empress, the ship involved in the offshore 3D seismic imaging, has covered an area of around 300 square metres since its arrival in Montenegro seven days ago.

“This accounts for approximately 22 percent of the total area covered by blocks four, five and ten of Montenegro’s seabed,” the Administration says in a press release.

The press release says that no problems in imaging have been encountered so far, adding that there have been no delays either.

“All environmental protection measures and monitoring of its parameters have been carried out in line with the Environmental Impact Assessment Study,” the Administration says.

The licensed marine mammal and sea turtle observers on board of Polar Empress have not registered any changes so far indicating negative impact of 3D imaging on biodiversity of the sea.

The seismic imaging of this offshore area started a week ago and, weather permitting, it will take 34 days.

The imaging, commissioned by the concessionaire Eni and Novatek, is carried out by Shearwater.

The drilling is expected to start late next year or at the beginning of 2020. Two-thirds of the total revenues coming from potential oil and gas exploitation belong to Montenegro.
