Security challenges know no border

Podgorica, (MINA) – The security challenges, which know no borders, are creating the need for defining common resources and projects that will contribute to further development of national defense capabilities, it was heard at a ministerial meeting of the US-Adriatic Charter (A5) in Budva on Wednesday.

Welcoming noted at the meeting took place as part of this year’s Montenegrin chairmanship of the A5 initiative were delivered by Prime Minister Dusko Markovic, Minister of Defense  Predrag Boskovic and U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense Laura Cooper.

According to a press release from the Montenegrin Defense Ministry, Markovic underlined that the past 15 years of the successful existence of the A5 speaks volumes of the quality of defense cooperation between the countries of the Western Balkans.

He underlined the undeniable contribution of the A5 initiative to Montenegro’s bid to become NATO’s 29 member state.

“The Prime Minister concluded that Montenegro will continue to advocate for quick and efficient meeting of objectives of strengthening all-round cooperation between the countries of South East Europe,” the press release underlined.

Minister Boskovic noted that the A5 is a significant forum for promoting Euro-Atlantic aspirations of the countries of South East Europe, which is a powerful instrument for regional defense cooperation.

Cooper is said to have emphasized the importance of the A5’s role in building mutual understanding and trust among the countries of the region.

“She said that the security challenges, which know no borders, are creating the need for defining common resources and projects, which will also contribute to further development of national defense capabilities, and that the U.S. will continue to support the efforts of the countries of the region in that respect,” the press release stated.
