Podgorica, (MINA) – The Austrian Defense Ministry will keep the Western Balkans in focus, with possible reinforcement of the engagement in the EU missions and operations in Africa, in order to reduce pressures of illegal migrations in Europe, said Austrian Defense Minister Mario Kunasek.
In an interview to the Montenegrin Defense Ministry’s magazine Partner, he said that if Austria and other states would refrain from participation in international missions, development trends in the unstable regions would have negative consequences for Europe.
“We must export security”, he stated.
Regarding the relations with Montenegro in the field of defense, Kunasek stressed out importance of intensifying of bilateral cooperation, in particular in regard to training for mountain warfare.
“We should talk about future initiatives related to safe munition and armament storage”, Kunasek, whose official visit to Montenegro is planned for April, said.
He assessed Montenegro’s EU prospect, in the context of its NATO membership, as very good.
Kunasek shares the Union’s opinion, from the latest report, in which it is stated that Montenegro is remaining constructively committed to bilateral relations with other candidates and neighboring member countries and that it is an active participant of regional cooperation.
