Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – According to the nongovernmental organization Green Home, Montenegro has a considerable potential for energy saving, which should be tapped and taken into consideration before the decisions have been made to invest in large power plants.
“Montenegro must recognize that energy efficiency is a priority in the energy sector and plan the national budget and the assistance for development support and financing of energy efficiency in line with the ‘energy efficiency first’ principle,” the NGO says in a press release.
Green Home believes it is necessary to establish the Energy Efficiency Agency with adequate financial and administrative capacities, and upgrade the statistical data by establishing a functional system for calculation of energy efficiency indicators.
The NGO believes that the costs of renewable energy sources are decreasing considerably, making tem the cheapest and most feasible investment opportunity in the energy sector.
“Compared with 2010, the solar energy costs declined by 73 percent in 2017,” Green Home says, adding that the costs of wind energy decreased by 23 percent in the same period.
