Djukanovic: Prime Minister has offered dialogue, not interim government

Budva, (MINA) – Prime Minister Dusko Markovic has not offered an interim government to the opposition, but invited them to dialogue, president Milo Djukanovic stressed.

Answering if he agreed with Markovic that the opposition should be offered forming of an interim government, as it had been the case in 2016, he told the press at the sidelines of the To Be Secure forum that a part of the media imprecisely reported the PM’ statement.

He remarked that they have on many occasions called upon the opposition to work together on establishing the dialogue since the beginning of the crisis in the parliament’s functioning.

Djukanovoc added that the opposition rejected their invitation to dialogue, which were sent right after the beginning of the civic protests, stating that they only want their resignations.

He explained that Markovic only invited the opposing to the dialogue in the parliament, and the invitation to forming of an interim government is something that was badly interpreted by a part of the media. He added that the interim government is what the opposition wishes for.

Djukanovic stated that they will not offer an interim government and recalled that the last time they did it had been agreed that everyone would have acknowledge the results of the elections which were held after forming of the interim government.

“When the results came, we had the same situation no different from what we had in every previous case”, said Djukanovic.

The opposition, according to him, refuses to face political reality and opts for obstruction of the institutions.

Asked to comment on Vesna Medenica’s candidacy for the position of the Supreme Court president, which a part of the public sees as unconstitutional, Djukanovic remarked that he was convinced that the Judicial Council will decide accurately on what the legal norm is.

Asked to comment on the election of Zoran Lazovic, who attended Safet Kalic’s wedding, to the position of Assistant Chief of Police, he said that the National Security Agency, for which he worked at the time, explained that Lazovic attended the wedding as requested by his service.

Asked to comment on the Kosovo president’s statement that, if the EU would not change the position towards that country, Kosovo could become a part of the same country with Albania, Djukanovic said that he understood it was an invitation and encouragement to the EU not to postpone the accession process.
