Dubrovnik, Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – According to Minister of Transport and Maritime Affairs Osman Nurkovic, Montenegro has made progress in terms of comprehensive reforms and economic growth aimed at establishing better connections with key corridors.
At the opening panel of the conference focusing on the achievements and plans of the Croatian government, he said that the Mediterranean, and the Middle East – Eastern Mediterranean corridors were important as part of the indicative extension of European corridors to the Western Balkans.
“In terms of connections between Montenegro and Croatia, the Mediterranean corridor, i.e. Adriatic Ionian Motorway along the Montenegrin coast, is of key importance. This corridor directly connects Croatia, Albania and part of Bosnia and Herzegovina with Montenegro,” said Nurkovic.
The Ministry of Transport and Maritime Affairs says in a press release that Nurkovic reminded that Montenegro was awarded an €8 million grant for development of technical documentation and a study necessary for this project, while a grant worth approximately €40 million was awarded at this year’s Summit of WB6 Prime Ministers for the co-financing of development of part of a bypass around Budva, which is part of this corridor.
Reminding that China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) was a contractor in charge of the construction of the Peljesac Bridge, Nurkovic offered to share experiences and knowhow with the counterparts from Croatia, given that the same company was constructing the priority section of the Bar-Boljare motorway, between Smokovac and Matesevo.
