Spajic: Adoption of financial package confirms EU sees Montenegro as its next member

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – The adoption of the financial package for Montenegro’s accession to the European Union (EU) confirms that the EU sees Montenegro as its next member state, Prime Minister Milojko Spajic said.

Today, the European Commission (EC) adopted a financial package setting out the budgetary arrangements that will apply to Montenegro upon its accession to the EU.

“Great news officially from Brussels – Montenegro is part of the EU’s next seven-year budget (2028–2034)! Our country is the only candidate country included in this financial framework, confirming that the EU sees Montenegro as its next member,” Spajic posted on Instagram.

He said that, according to the EC’s projections, Montenegro will be able to access around €3.2 billion from the EU budget, under the same funding structure that applies to member states.

“This means more investment, stronger support for the economy, infrastructure, agriculture, social policies and local communities, and above all, a better quality of life for our citizens,” Spajic added.

He thanked the European Commission for its trust, partnership and support on Montenegro’s path toward what he described as its imminent and certain EU membership.

“Special thanks to Cyprus, which held the Presidency of the Council of the European Union over the past six months, during which we continued closing negotiating chapters. After 17 years, the European Commission also began work on the Accession Treaty for a new EU member and presented the financial package relating to Montenegro’s membership,” Spajic said.
