Radulovic: Montenegro can become an important supply hub for Central Europe

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – Minister of Maritime Affairs Filip Radulovcć believes that, thanks to its strategic position on the Adriatic Sea, Montenegro has a real opportunity to become a major supply hub for Central European countries, provided that investment in transport infrastructure continues.

Speaking at the Transport Investment Summit in Thessaloniki, he noted that port development must be accompanied by improvements to rail and road infrastructure.

“A strong port cannot exist without high-quality railway and road infrastructure, but neither can a modern transport network achieve its full potential without a developed port. Therefore, the development of all modes of transport must proceed in parallel,” said Radulovic, who also serves as the coordinator of the Ministry of Transport.

He recalled that €112.6 million has already been secured for the modernization of the Golubovci–Bar railway line, while international financial institutions have expressed interest in supporting the financing of other projects along the Bar–Bijelo Polje railway corridor.

Discussing the position of the Port of Bar in a regional context, Radulovic said that the capacities of the Port of Koper are approximately 20 times larger, and those of the Port of Rijeka eight times larger than the capacity of the Port of Bar. This indicates significant room for further development and strengthening the competitiveness of Montenegro’s maritime infrastructure.

“Montenegro remains committed to developing its transport network in line with the priorities of the TEN-T network and the Mediterranean Corridor, with the goal of strengthening regional connectivity, attracting investment, and improving the country’s economic competitiveness,” Radulovic concluded.
