Podgorica, (MINA) – Opposition representatives have presented a platform aimed at overcoming the political crisis, calling, among other things, for amendments to the laws on internal affairs and the National Security Agency (ANB), with the goal to speed up the country’s European path.
Leader of the Democratic Party of Socialists Danijel Zivkovic said that, in addition to this party, the European Alliance, the Croatian Civic Initiative (HGI) and MP Mehmed Zenka also signed the platform.
Zivkovic said that the platform’s primary request is to amend two disputed laws – on the internal affairs and on ANB.
He said that the second request is the establishment of political consensus regarding key appointments in the judiciary.
“I am primarily referring to the appointments of distinguished lawyers in the Judicial Council and the Constitutional Court judges and other appointments, as well as the appointment of a director of the Radio and Television of Montenegro (RTCG) in line with the valid legislation”, added Zivkovic.
He said that the third request is that legal solutions should not be amended without the consent of the opposition, in particular the laws on the election of councilors and deputies, the electoral registry, residence, Montenegrin citizenship, identity card, and financing of political entities and election campaigns.
Zivkovic remarked that the fourth request refers to the oversight and monitoring role of the opposition ahead of the local and parliamentary elections next year.
He said that the opposition’s goal is to speed up the EU integration process with this platform.
Zivkovic added that they were surprised by the ruling majority’s reaction.
“Because they failed to understand that they have a pro-European opposition speaking with them, but also the pro-European state-building opposition cannot remain silent in the face of violations of human rights and freedom and the violation of the Constitution under the pretext of European integration”, said Zivkovic.
He said that the talks on signing the platform were also held with the URA Civic Movement, which, according to him, expressed stronger views. He added that there were also discussions with independent MPs who are, in principle, in agreement with the initiative.
