Podgorica, (MINA) – There are no serious issues burdening relations between Croatia and Montenegro, said Croatian President Zoran Milanovic, adding that the issue of the training ship Jadran is not of crucial importance, while the border demarcation should be resolved.
According to RTCG web portal, Milanovic said that Jadran was built during the Karadjordjevic monarchy and served as training vessel during Tito’s Yugoslavi, adding that this issue is not an important one, but “a trivialization of the relations between two states and two peoples”.
In his opinion, the border dispute is the one that should be resolved.
“Borders – that is what should be resolved. This issue has been discussed for years, but now it’s a matter of strength and credibility of Montenegro’s authorities to finish it and emerge from it without political consequences, since there will always be accusations that someone has betrayed Prevlaka. It is clear what belongs to Croatia and what is Montenegrin”, Milanovic said.
Speaking about the possibility of Croatia blocking Montenegro’s European path if the open issues would remain resolved, Milanovic remarked that the answer to that question should be sought from Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic.
Asked about other open issues between the two countries, such as the compensation for former POW detainees in Morinj, Milanovic said that “some gesture should be made”, but emphasized that the two countries share more issues that unite them than divide them.
